MATAROA NOTES.
On Friday night a send-off was given in the local hall to Mr. Gus Murphy, who is leaving for camp. There was a very large attendance and it was quits evident that Mr. Murphy was very popular and highly respected by the people of the district. The evening was spent in dancing, which Avas kept up till the small hours of the morning. On behalf of the residents of the district, Mr. C. Forde presented Mr. Murphy with a tobacco pouch, a case of pipes, and a breastplate. In making th presentation, Mr. Forde stated that Mrs. Murphy must be a proud mother, seeing that two of her sons were at present doing service for their country.
On rising to respond, Mr. Munphy was greeted with cheers. He thanked one and all for their kindness and stated that he had spent many pleasant times at Mataroa.
Cheers were then given for the guest and his mother
During the evening songs were rendered by Mr Midgley.
