WHISKY FOR THE TRENCHES.

A strange phase of trench life was disclosed at the Marine Police Court, Glasgow, when a soldier was charged with having been drunk and incapable. When accused was apprehended he was found to have in his possession eight bottles of whisky. His explanation of how he'came to have so much whisky was that he had bought it on behalf of some of his trench companions. He arrived in the city direct from the trenches on short furlough. Before he left several of his companions clubbed together and gave him sufficient money to buy the whisky, which be was to bring back with him if possible. He took the first opportunity of fulfilling the commission. Bailie Stewart, in admonishing the accused, said be could take any story or excuse he liked back to his comrades in the trenches, but the eight bottles of whisky .would be confiscated. On the Suggestion of Superintendent Davidson, it was decided that the whisky should be given to Stobhill Military Hospital.
