THE "PROPHET" RUA. SERIOUS CHARGES PENDING. AUCKLAND, April 19. The Maori Rua, who -was arrested at Maungapohatu nearly three weeks ago, for commitment to gaol for slygrog selling, will be brought before the Court at Rotorua next week on serious charges resulting from die shooting that occurred at the- time of his ar.rest. One of the charges will he that he counselled certain of his followers to commit the murder of'-thf.se members of the police who were wounded, and another charge. Avill *>«■ that he counselled his followers to uj?e firearms in resisting the lawful exee'-i----tion of a warrant of commitment. The penalty, on conviction on either or the charges mentioned, may be imprisonment for life. A CHILD DROWNED. AUCKLAND, This Day. Ruben George Pigot, aged eighteen months, was drowned at Moumoukai in a creek near his father's house. GERMAN DOCTOR ARRESTED. AUCKLAND, April 19. By instructions from the Defence Department, Dr. Endletsberger, who resides at Epsom, was arrested tlr!s afternoon and -handed over to the military authorities.
COASTAL FREIGHTS RISE. WELLINGTON, April 10. With reference to the Dunedin telegram about shipping freights, it is stated that as from Monday last an incease of 1/(5 per ton operates on gener al cargo carried by small coastal vessels trading between Wellington and Patea. So far no definite increase has been decided upon by the owners of other smaller coasters trading out of Wellington, but it is generally considered that a rise is almost inevitable.
