, BRITISH 81-PLAHE DOWNED. RUSSIAN ACTIVITY AT DVINSK. AMSTERDAM, April 17. A German communique states: We brought down a British biplane northwest of Feronne. The pilot was dead and the observer seriously wounded. .“The Russians have devolped great activity on the bridgehead at Dvinsk. SUNK BY GUNFIRE. A NORWEGIAN SHIP. BRITISHER ALSO SUNK. LONDON, April 17. The Norwegian ship Glendon was sunk by gun-fire by a Germa usubmarine. The British ship Harrovian was also sunk. THE ADVANCE ON BAGDAD. LONDON, April 17. Replying to a question as to whether the Indian or the British Government authorised the advance on Bagdad, Mr. Austen Chamberlain said that the commander-in-chief of Mesopotamia made the proposal. General Townshend, in reply to the King's message to the besieged garrison, said that all ranks were inspirted by His Majesty’s message. The knowledge of the Sovereign’s sympathy would be their sheet anchor in the defence of Kut-el-Amara. GERMAN PLOTS.
TO BLOW UP WELLAND CANAL. VON PAPEN INDICTED. WASHINGTON, April 17. The Federal Grand Jury returned indictments against Capt. von Papen, accusing him of participation in the plot to blow up the Welland Canal. Captain Hanstaucher and others were also indicted for the same plot. THE MEXICAN BRIGAND. VILLA REPORTED DEAD. BODY DISINTERRED. IN POSSESSION OF CARRANZA’S TROOPS. NEW YORK, April 17. A telegram from El Paso, near the frontier of Mexico, states that the body of Francisco Villa, the leader of the revolt against the Carranza Government, was disinterred some days after it had been buried. The body is now in the possesion of Carranza’s troops, and is being taken to Chihuahua.
