WAIMARINO COUNTY COUNCIL.
ENGINEER'S REPORT. At the Council meeting, t-he Engineer (Mr. T. Dix) reported for the month as follows:
Rangataua Lakes Road. —The water tables and culverts have been cleared. Several of the culverts are in a bad state of repair and require renewing.
Rata-Maire Road. —The metal has been raked in and banked with clay, and water tables have been cut in the papa where necessary. It is next to impossible to keep this road in shape, owing to the scarcity of culverts. Waiouru-Tangiwai Road. —Is In a good condition. Watertables have been made and outlet drains opened up. T-he reinforcement for the Waitaiki bridge has been ordered; OAving to the near approach of winter it will not be advisable to commence the sonstruction at present.
Rangiwaea Road. —One man has been engaged in raking the metal together. The metal lacks binding material and will not set.
Pukekaha Road. —During the latter end of the month one man has been employed in opening culverts and cleaning watertables.
Ohura Road.—Six men have been using 1 , two scoops clearing slips en Gardner's Hill. Ninety pipes for culverts -have been carted out and will be used between Meyer's and Gardner's. Watertables have been made on the stoney portions of the road. Ruatiti Road. —The County portion of the road is now open for vehicular traffic. The grader has trimmed Hie road and cleaned the watertables from Maklno road to Jensen's; watertubles have been cut in the rocky parts. Eighty pipes are required for new culverts and they will be carted out when our team is available.
Murumuru Road. —Eight men have been working in clearing slips and replacing washouts. T- T ie large culvert at the washout has been built and the road has been trimmed by the grader from Pehu Junction to the washout.
Manganui-o-te-ao Bridle Track. —I have received a. price for sledging from the Ohura read to the Tokitokiran briidge site, but it is too hig-h. I would recommend that the timber for the towers be cut as near to the site as is possible, and the balance of the timber could be either sledged or else cut into suitable lengths and carried on packhorses to the site.
Owing to the extreme cost of taking timber to the Rakautangi bridge site from the sawmills, I would advise that the re-erection of the bridge be delayed until it is possible to get the timber pitsawn near the bridge site. Ohura Road Metalling..—The . contractor for metalling Harris' hill lias not commenced the contract. Good proguess has been made by the contractor in metalling the other portion of this road. Horse Teams.—The horse teams have been engaged in grading the Waiouru, Pakihi, Ruatiti,, Murumuru, Ohura, Manga eturoa. and AVaipuna roads, and on scoop work on the Parapara, Ohura, and Waipuna roads, also in carting timber, pipes, and horsefeed. There aTe 17 horses in work. During the month one of the hired horses met with an accident and had to be destroyed. I would ask the Council to consider the necessity of insuring the horses. Briidge Work. —Three bridges hnve been redecked on the Horopito, Ohakune, and Pokaka roads. McLean's bridge is now practically completed. The timber and ironwork for the Okura bridge has been ordered.
