GERMAN SITUATION NEEDS DESPERATE REMEDY. NOW HELPLESS ON ALL FRONTS. UNABLE TO DELIVER SUCCESSFUL OFFENSIVE ON THE WESTERN FRONT. ’ „(Reed. 9.0 a.m.). Colonel Repington says that the Germans have not had the wit to make the most of their successes and thereby to secure a favourable peace. Military pride was then the obstacle, and now' they are unable to deliver a successful general offensive on the western front, nor to recommence operations on the Russian front without unduly weakening on the British and Italian fronts. , The German situation needs a desperate remedy, which may either be sought by an attack in Flanders or an attempted invasion of Britain. The Times’ Parliamentary correspondent understands that the Chief of the General Staff, and military members of the Army Council, have furnished the Cabinet with a definite statement' of immediate requirements in men.
