A WAR SOUVENIR.
The chaplain of Versailles, the Rev. Vivian Evans, has just presented the town with a very curious Frenc-h book, which, having been taken from the French battleship Redoubtable aftor | the encounter with the Victory at the ' battle of Trafalgar, has been a prisoner of war in English hands a few years over a hundred years. It is a chart book issued by the French Navy in the reign of Louis XVI., and is marked with observations made in pencil by some French officer. In accepting the volume, M. Henri Simon. May. or of Versailles, sent the British chaplain a lfetter, in which h e said: ""We accept your kind offer with great pleasure. The precious volume which you are giving to the town of Versailles wilL be as a token „cf the indestructible friendship which unites our two countries. The alliance existing to-day merely strengthens the links of reciprocal esteem which were forged in the loyal struggles of the past.
