HOTEL TRAGEDY. MAN FOUND HANGING. AUCKLAND, This Day. Shortly after four o ’cluck yesterday afternoon a man named Cnthbertson, aged about 40, was discovered hanging by a necktie from the bedpost in fine of the bedrooms of the Imperial Hotel. He was dead when cut down, and the body was removed by the police. Cuthbertson is said to be well known locally. DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE. WANGANUI, This Day. Edward Haines, single, aged about 35, died while being brought in from Kaukatea to the hospital. A postmortem disclosed heart disease. CYCLONE AT STRATFORD. TREES TORN DOWN. HOUSES AND SHEDS UNROOFED. MOTOR-SHED BLOWN INTO A DININGROOM. STRATFORD, ThisHloV. A cyclonic wind struck Strafford, near tht racecourse, at 0.15 this morning, and for a mile cut a 00-foot track through the outskirts of the town to' Walrwick Road. Trees, sheds, and fences were torn down and blown away; venal -houses and Newton King's hide-sheds were partially unroofed* and otherwise damaged. Telephone, telegraph; and electric wires along the rout were rolled into an inextricable tangle; a small motor-house was hurled against the residence of Mr. T. G. Grubb from an adjoining section, and smashed through his diningroom window, Damage done is very considerable, but no one was injured. A BEAST’S SENTENCE. MASTERTON, March 20. An elderly man named John Palmer, who pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault on a six-year-bid' child at Carterton, was sentenced by Mr Justice Chapman in the Supreme Court, to five years’ hard labour.
