BOXING.
CLABBY OUTPOINTS HOLLAND,
Jimmy Clabby (11.0) had an easy points victory over Fritz Holland (11.4) in a 20 rounds contest at the Sydney Stadium on the 4th inst. Clabby’s spe’ed and occasional rushing tactics, coupled with vimful close fighting, frequently had the coolheaded Holland guessing. The latter, however, fought gamely and skilfully, and helped a good deal in the provision of a highly scientific fight. Both men hit from all manner of positions, hut dabby had the speed by a long way,, and hit the more often of the pair. Holland weakened under his body blows, which once, or twice came dangerously near being fouls, but rallied towards the finish and had the better of a couple of rounds. As Holland entered the ring he was accorded a reception the like of which few boxers have, ever had. Hundreds rose in their seats and gave him three cheers. Arthur Scott, for the - third, time successively, was greeted with hooting which was immediately drowned by a counter demonstration. So popular is Holland that though he was obviously no match for Clabby on Saturday night a few people voiced their objection to Scott’s ruling. Jack Kearns, the American manager of boxers, who was in Australia recently, in a letter to a Sydney friend, says:—"The four-round game is going in full swing in San Francisco. All the old-timers are boxing again. Can yon imagine Willard getting 55,000d01. and Moran 25,0Q0d01. for their ends for a, ten-round no-decision bout? You know that you can hardly make the San Francisco public realise that two men like Willard and Moran should draw that kind of money. The San Francisco public has seen them both box Gunboat Smith, and the only thing that they showed in their battle with Smith was that they were yellow,/ and would stop if they were hit hard. Darcy can defeat all these heavyweights in the same night and in the same ring.”
