An attempt was made this week to negotiate a ten-pound Bank of New Zealand note—apparently one of the number unloaded in Auckland a couple of years ago. 14th REINFORCEMENTS. COMPLETING MOBILISATION. WELLINGTON, March 10. The mobilisation of the 14th Reinforcements will b c completed to-mor-row. Figures which have reached the Defence Headquarters already show that shortages ar e considerable in both Canterbury and Otago. Auckland has done well, and is expected to have a full quota in camp by Sunday. Some additional men to fill the gaps .are to arrive from the North to-morrow. Wellington is still short about 40 men of its full quota. CORPORATION’S ILLEGAL ACT. WELLINGTON, March 10. Justice Hosking gave judgment in the case Borough of Tauranga v. B of New Zealand and the Attorney-(jjSh-eral. Justice Hosking decided that the Corporation’s action in raising a special loan of £4,300 to pay the overdraft of £2,911 and other liabilities totalling £1,336 was illegal. The amount so raised exceeded the 10 per cent, additional allowable without a poll on the lighting loan of £II,OOO.
