A meeting of the Taihape Athletic Club will be held :n the Secretary’s office, Gretna Buildings, on Monday nest at S p.m. A Press Association telegram states that .of infantile paralysis is reported—a child three years of age —making five cases in Hapier and a total of 10 for Hawke's Bay. ‘‘The only unpleasant feature I found,” said Mr. J. de Cordova, an American tourist, after a trip through Hew Zealand, “was in connection with, the railway service. The delays at the small stations were numerous and vexatious. I see no reason why the wmiting time at tire important stations, ■ shouM not be lessened, why many of the small stations should bo eliminated from the places, and why the trains should nor. be considerably speeded up. The cars were horribly dirty. The train from Rotorua on Saturday been cleaned out, and travelling consequently unpleasant. The dining ears are badly supplied, and some I travelled in were ‘eaten ont. J The hotds iu this, country give a traveller what he pays for. I found everyone I dealt w r ith very courteous. ”
