WHAT THE GERMAN PEOPLE WANT.
The Frankfurter Zeitung has been telling of the opinion of the pupils in a Girls’ B'oard School in Berlin on the war. Their teacher asked the girls set forth in writing what their r quests should be if a good fairy came and promised them anything the-' wanted for Christmas. Half the girls in the entire school answered in much the same vein—if they could have what they wished most on earth th: would have the bell ring for peace. The other half gave answers that had a similar significance—they would ash their good fairy for clothing or fo food. ‘Where on earth could tl children have got these ideas?” asks the Frankfurter Zeitung. The auswe
is simple. They got them from their homes, where prevailing opinion is obviously very different from that manufactured by authority. The Germans themselves have a proverb: “Only children and fools speak the truth.”
