HOW FRENCHMEN DIE.

LAST SCENES ON THE PROVINCE. PARIS, March 7. M. Bokanowski, a French Deputy, a survivor of the Provence, which was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean, narrates that a battalion of the Third Colonial Infantry was aboard. There ws no lamentation or panic though the ship was sinking rapidly and the boilers exploding. Captain Vesco remained on the bridge calmly giving orders. Finally he cried, "Adieu, mes cniants.” The men clustered on the foredeck and replied, -‘Vive La France.’ Then the Provence made a sudden plunge. A British jpatrol and a French torpedoer picks dup the survivors after they had been IB hours in the water. Many died or went mad before the rescuers arrived.
