MATTERS CRITICAL IN CONSTANTINOPLE.
The Germans around Verdun have made a diversion along sir front westwards towards Forges, and although in the surises they have got possession o a mile or so of country we are sured £ a late wire that this Ins no definite influence on the >rdun.*ruggle. It is evident tiat these surprises are to take ice as feelers for weak spots along the whole front. Eastv ard Verdun the German front run 5 due north than turns and mns the westward or south-westward, past Forges, Malancourt and past Souvain, and it is this direction that slight gains have :en made. The French claim to he solid at T erdim and this is icked by Lord Northcliffe who cannot say too much in praise the French strength and position.
