“PAPA” JOFFRE’S PROMOTION.
The appointment of General Joffre to the supreme command has created .tremendous satisfaction dn, France. Undoubtedly the most popular Frenchman of the day, “Papa’ Joffre, 'as he is .affectionately called, carries the public confidence. Not only as France’s delivering angel, but as the one man capable, by his military genius, of bringing Germany toi [her knees, he is adored. Not that General Joffre claims to achieve all this single handed, for the handling of some 3,000,000 soldiers is beyond the power even cf a Napoleon. No, in his greatness, Joffre has not forgotten to nay high tribute, not only to the Allied generals, but to those who have so long worked in unison with him. Nevertheless, the movements of those multitudes of men, whose lines extend across France, over the Gallipoli Peninsula, and from Salonika to the Vardar, are now to depend entirely upon the will of the most vener'ated general of all times, “Father” Joffre.
