LONDON, February 29.

The London wool sales opened today, the general l ton e of the market being hesitant.

Competition was confined to Yorkshire buyers. American orders were plentiful, but no purchases were made owing to the Government's refusal to grant export licenses. A total of 4.833 Australian,. 2,550 New Zealand,, and 457 Cape bales were catalogued, th e last including a good average selection of all sorts. There was a large attendance, and prices receded from last sale's inflated level. Crossbreds s-iowed an all-round drop of 5 to 7i per cent, lower. Good merinos were par to 5 per cent, lower, shabbier 5 to 7i per cent, lower.
