As a result of a conference with the health authorities th e Auckland Board of Education will do its utmost to check infantile, paralysis. It has decided to close the public schools of t-io city and suburbs, also a number of the larger schools of the country, for the next fortnight as an experiment. There is an extraordinarily large volume of traffic upon the Eaetihi-Oha-kune road this summer. Timber traffic is maintained, and is augmented by record wool tonnage. It is understood that the Public Works Department is making preparations for effecting extensive repairs with crushed metal on the Eaetihi end, and ther e is no doubt that such repairs, will be required if settlers are to have a passable road for the ensuing winter months.
