Warstep has gone to the stud. A sporting match was run at Napior Park recently. Mr. G. McDonald matched Sand Glass against Kirkby. belonging to Mr. P. Neagle, over fom furlongs, the winner to take both horst-s.- Kirkby won easily and Sand Glass is now an inmate of Mr. i Neagle's stable. He is a fi-year-old gelding by San Fran out of Secret. The Wanaganui Cup must have been a fine race to watch and the three placed horses were all close togeth-er. The crack Auckland lightweight O'Shea, who was on the winner, roda well-judged race. He is riding very well just now. Tanagihou evidently had bad luck in the Cup, his rider breaking a stirrup leather duing the race. , Ht- also got blocked badly but put in a great finish over the last three furlogs, finish-' ing xdose up fourth It is a good performance and he should run a good race in the Wanganui Stakes', in which he is to carry 7.2.
The consistent Hushman gained the judge's verdict in the Jmonile Handicap with 9.2 on his back in good time, and he returned -his supporters a good dividend.
Black Northern was in the mood on Thursday and the black gelding won the Westmere Hurdles as he liked by four lengths. The ' aged Flingot, owned by Mr. H. M. Campbell, of Hawke's Bay, ran second. Marton ran a disappointing race but will improve with a race or two.
The finish in the Wiritoa Hack Handicap was very exciting. Ararat gaining the verdict from Bronk Delaveli by a nose.
Colom.l Soult has gone up lllbs for winning the Wanganui Cup, and Welcome Nugget, who ran second, has gone up 51bs. This should bring the two horses very close together and it will be interesting to see how they finish in the big race to-day.
Play-Off created a surprise in the Flying and no doubt double layers would shake hands over the win. Nones ran a game race but the Coronet gelding got out with a good start and Mr. Greenwood's filly was not abto to p;et up in time. The judge's verdict was "s nose."
The well-known racehorse My Lawyer is reported to have died from injuries received in a fight with another horse. This will be a severe loss to .his owner, who hod every reason to bc!iev 0 that he would achieve success at the stud. Sir Solo and Red Ribbon, both of whom have been on the easy list, are now being given regular work an'"! will be seen out at the Mastorton meeting - next month. Chillies, which won the Flying Hack Handicap at the Woodville meeting, will be next seen out in the Ladies' Bracelet at Masterton and will be ridden by his owner, Mr, E. Cooper, who is in camp at Tauherenikau? The goodlooking son of Achilles is very well at present. Amber and White, owned by Mr. C. F. Vallance, the well-known YVairarapa sportsman, is to bo tried over the small fences this season. He is a likelylooking' hurdler.
Sir Fisher is in work again at Feilcling. Ho is trained by his owner, Mr. Huri'ey.
