ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE.

Herbert G. Smith, general manager, Phoenix Fire Insurance Co., was waylaid by two men while proaeedinsf *o his home in Bidwell Street, on Monday •night. He refused to give up his purse, whereupon the men attacked him. and knocked him about. After Ire was rendered insensible he was rolled down a bank, wheiv lie lay until 4 cm., when he regained consciousness. He is severely injured about the Face, head, and body.
An eel was discovered in an uniusual place in Njew Plymouth the) other day (states the News). Whilst sinking foundation holes for the new theatre, next to the Criterion Hotel, the contractor struck an eight-inch live eel, eleven feet down. In the old days a strea-m passed through the secton, which, like most of the middle of the town, has been filled in. Whence did the eel come? That is a question which is puzzling the contractors.
