PRINCE YUSSUF’S DEATH
DETAILS OF HIS ASSASSINATION
MARTIN DONOHOE’S STORY OP
THE TRAGEDY
LONDON, February 19
Mr. Martin Donohoe, writing from Athens, sends the story of Prince Yussuf’s death. He says there is little doubt he was assassinated at the instigation of Enver Pasha. The Prince was found in the palace lying in a corridor between the harem and a bathroom. A vein had been opened in the left arm and he had been allowed to bleed to death. The body was covered with bruises. Every, thing indicated a desperate struggle for life. The Prince had been waylaid in the harem but none offered to help. The Prince was aware that his life was in danger but the plans for his assassination were well laid. He was always armed and had a revolver in his bedroom, but he failed to take the weapon into the corridor. Passers-by heard piteous shouts for help. Marks -n the throat showed that the assailants half choked the Prince to stifle his cries.
There was deep enmity between the Prince and Enver, and the latter did not scruple to remove his enemy from his path. The climax was reached a few weeks ago, when Prince Yussuf said, “Beware, your hour is approaching.” Enver never forgave the Prince. loyal fruit dealers. * LONDON, February 19. The Right Hon. Walter Runciman received a deputation of fruit dealers, who said: “Recognising the Government’s need of tonnage, we are anxi-i ous to assist the national interests. We therefore suggest that a certain number of steamers be licensed to import fruit.”
