The secretary of the New South Wales Furniture Trades Union (Mr. O. Schreber) says in his annual report that there has been a tendency to relapse into the system of the private trading workman. Owing to machinery and power being: brought to the door of the little man the latter is encouraged, power is installed, and plant hired from municipal l bodies and traders at low rates, and timber and otter requirements are advanced. Given such a start, it is contended, the small manufacturer becomes at once the most abject of slaves, not alone industrially, but commercially as well."
