ALL FOR EMPIRE.
The Taihape author, (Mr A. James), of the "All for Empire" proposals that were distributed by the local Chamber of Commerce throughout the Dominion will gather some satisfaction in learning that they are being acted upon almost in their entirety by the commercial travellers of the Dominion ,who have just recently formed an "All for Empire League," hav-
ing for its objects the exclusion of fill enemy trade and the encouragement of trade within the Empire. A largely attended conference was held, and
a long list of resolutions of a determined businesslike looking character were adopted, the whole proceedings
being marked by earnest enthusiasm as is evidenced in the first resolution, "That this conference heartily approves of any scheme having for its object the elimination of enemy trade from the Dominion, and undertakes to bring before the members of all affiliated associations the necessity for an immediate and active canvas towards the accomplishment of the sug. gestions set out in the objects* of the All for Empire League." The Taihape Chamber of Commerce proposal that every member should pay one shilling a year was next adopted and every delegate at ence put in his contribution. Legislation is to be promoted that will favour the objects of the League and ensure their effectiveness; to make it illegal for aliens to hold property in land or in shares of adjoint stock company trading in New Zealand; to promote favoured nation treatment, in tariff relationships between New Zealand and Britain's Allies in the present war; to eliminate German trade by the adoption of an absolutely prohibitive tariff, and increased shipping dues on all present enemy vessels; to conduct by Press propaganda a publicity campaign to keep the people of New Zealand alive to the tremendous issues involved in Germany's attempt to dominate the commerce of the world; to make traffic in German goods impossible by securing definite pledges from members of the League that they will not purchase goods made in Germany, from any merchant or storekeeper, and that they will not knowingly deal with merchants or storekeepers who have purchased German or enemy goods since August, 1914. The above briefly gives the intentions and maps out the operations of the "All for Empire League," and there are few people Avho will not wish it the utmost success.
