Exportations of motor spirit from America in September last dropped to 4,612,000 gallons, as against 17,687,000 in September 1914. Those figures indicate the rush there was for petrol in the early stages of the war by the European nations. Whilst motor spirit exports have fallen off, the motor cycle shipments have increased fourteen times, during the same period.
New York is the largest city in the world (says an American journal). London/ by reason of th e losses occasioned by the war and because of a gigantic mistake in estimating the population, must now admit that the ximerican metropolis is the bigger by about a quarter of a million persons. Nor are matters improved, as Londoners •have 1 imagined, by comparing the population of Greater London with that of Greater New York, for there again the American metropolis beats the older city by 13? POO. It is four years now since the Jasi- census of London was taken, but the official figures have only just been made public. The exact number of people in th? County of London, according to these 1911 figures, is 4,521,358, whereas New York City in 1910 .numbered 4,766,583.
