FREIGHT RATES. ANOTHER RISE. i WELLINGTON, Feb. 3. The shipping companies engaged in cargo services between New Zealand and England have increased the rates on all homeward-bound cargo as from the 2nd inst. The wool freight is increased one-eig-hth of a penny per pound,, and other classes are increased about 15 per. cent. The rates for wool are how: Dumped greasy 1 3-8 d per lb, slipe -1-ld, Washed 1 5-Sd, with the usual id etra for uridumped wool. Despite tho increases, the New Zealand rates are still lower than the Australia n: - Passenger rates remain unchanged. It is notable that despite tho war the passenger bookings from New Zealand are exceptionally good. FIERCEST FIGHTERS ON EARTH. TEIBUTE TO "ANZACS." AUCKLAND, Feb. 3. Major Brereton, who was in charge of the men who returned by the Rotoi'ua, states that the conduct of all been excellent. It was a most enjoyable voyage, with two bright diversions at Capetown at Hobart. Major Brereton was injured in the attack on Krithia in May.
