Those people who demand a “business as usual” condition of affairs in connection with the prompt dispatch and receipt of telegrams are perhaps unaware that neaVly 900 telegraph officers hav e enlisted./ and gone away with the Now Zealand forces. Their absence, while not affecting the services in a marked degree, is felt when (rushes of business occur, particularly in the ope I ,rating rooms. Another effect othe war has been to delay the arrival of apparatus in connection with the installation of automatic, telephones. Many of the British a ( nd American firms which manufacture these articles are now engaged in the making of munitions. Consequently the appliances required arc coming to hand slowly.
