Judging by a return published in last Gazette, enemy goods, after seventeen months of war, arc still finding their way into this Dominion. The return,. the usual quarterly one, showing th e values and country whence goods were imported, discloed the facts that during the December quarter of 1915, goods valued at £5,349 were imported from Germany, £2,342 from Asiatic Turkey, £BO from Austria, and £O9 from Turkey. r Trade generally continues remarkably good (says the “Trade Review” in discussing the state of the import market). On all hands an excellent Christmas trade was done, and generally the turn ever has been well mainr tained since then. In some quarters it ig reported that, though busy, the buying is on a somewhat smaller scale. The cld difficulty in getting supplies still prevails, chiefly in metal goods. The freight question is becoming serious, both for imports and exports. There is considerable difficulty in obtaining sufficient space, and fates have been raised to an exorbitant figure. The rates from America are quoted at £8 per ton on lines that used to rule at 25/- to 30/-, while rates from England rule £3 to £4.
