The Court refused to convene a compulsory conference in connection with the coal strike* unless the men resumed. Much shipping is being held up. A BROKEN TRUCE. SYDNEY, January 28. Mr. Wade is claiming that the wartime truce has been'broken by the Government putting up a candidate in the recent by-election. Attacking the Government, he declared that it had given the No'rton-Griffiths syndicate a monopoly in the construction of large public works for five years, borrowing from the syndicate ten millions at five per cent interest, five per cent commission, and per cent underwriting. The cost to the taxpayers will be £2,400,000 during five years. WAR PRECAUTIONS. MELBOURNE, Jan. 28. ■ Amendments to the War Precautions Regulations prohibit the formation of companies increased capital, or the issue of shares, debentures, or bonds without the Treasurer’s consent.
