In a recent sermon, Bishop Julius, cf Christchurch, said: “You will realise that there is nothing in the religious thought inconsistent with stern severity. One is almost sick of the poor, weak, namby-pamby stuff talked of by. good people in these days. I have learned that someone in Canada lias forbidden the use of that verse in the National Ajnth'em which, crudjo and poetic as it may be, is sternly Scriptural when it says straight out in plain language what we Want-t—----that cur enemies’ plans may be confounded. There is something wholesome about that, and when we try to tone it down into pretty sentimental stuff lit for a hymn-book, why then we have lost the very spirit of religion itself.”
