SENTRY HALTS KING.

A touch of wartime humour at the expense of King George leaked through from Sandringham, according to a rather interesting letter just received at New York from London. It was during the King’s recent visit to his country place. Unattended., one evening at dusk, the King went for a short stroll through the grounds. He was soon interrupted by a peremptory “Halt!” “Who goes there.” demanded a sentry. There was no reply. The sentry repeated his challenge, sternly. “Who goe 3 there?” he thundered. “The King,” meekly answered the monarch. “Well, why the devil didn’t you say so ” blurted the soldier. And then he tried to apologise. But the King was too prompt. Ignoring the offered ‘apology, he quickly and smilingly commended the Tommy for his vigilance.
