DEFENCE NOTES

The Taihape quota for the 13th Reinforcements is now complete and men are being enrolled for the 14th Reinforcements.

The men warned for the 13th Reinforcements in many cases have not returned their acceptance notices and are advised that they must do so by the Ist of February. Otherwise other men will be called up to fill their places.

The parade of the Utiku section of the No. 43 Company, Senior Cadets, which was called for Friday, 28th January, 1916, has been cancelled and the next parade will be held on the 11th February.

The annual training camp for the 7th Wellington-i West Coast Regiment will commence at Rangiotu on 20th February. Four men are required from each Company to go to camp as an advance guard, and five men are required from D = Company as regimental pioneers. The pioneers and advance party will proceed to camp about the 16th February. The definite date will be notified later. Pending the appointment of an officer to command D Company, communications should be sent to Lieut. Diamond, P. 0., Feildhig.

The musketry course 1915-16 for D Company, Taihape platoon, will be carried out immediately. Owing to the fact that Staff Sergt-Major will be absent in Wellington,; shooting will not take place until Thursday, 3rd February and Saturday, sth February.

The hospital ship, Willochra, is expected to arrive in Wellington on Saturday next with a large number of sick and wounded. Staff Sergt-Major Tuckey has reoeived orders to proceed to Wellington to assist, in getting the men to their homes and will leave Taihape to-morrow morning for Wellington. No advice has yet been received as to whether any Taihape district men are returning by the Willochra.
