As a result of the new recrultinj boom in Britain, hospitals are being besieged by men previously refused icf the services. because of some slight defect. They-come for repairs, and with the resources of modern surgery the great majority will soon be sent back to the recruiting office's perfectly fit. "These men," writes a medical correspondent, "are really the very best fighting material a commander could desire. They have a fine development of the fighting instinct, and in spite of some undoubted physical disability many of them have offered themselves again and again. Some come to the hospitals with hernia. Others seek the correction of flat-foot, very common in those who stand much, and a bar to marching even a moderate distance.
