RETURNED SOLDIERS' TREATMENT.
REPLY TO DR. THACKER. In replying to Dr. Thacker's criticism of the treatment of returned soldiers, the Hon. G. W. Russell states there is only one case in Dr. Thacker's list which concerns the Public Health Department, that is cf William Angrove. The Minister states that he wired to 'a Dr. Herbert, the Medical Superintendent at Rotorua, for full particulars, and he received the following reply:—"The statement is absolutely untrue. Angrove arrived on the evening of the l'7th and was at once admitted. He was seen by •an assistant and told to attend my usual morning inspection of new patients next day. He did not appear. I have since been informed that he returned to Auckland next day. Every new patient is examined at ■ence, and starts upon his treatment the next morning. No patient is ever told, in any-circumstances, to wait another day. As this man went off with his and our papers 1 have no record of who sent him.
