FIRE AT AUCKLAND

A B’RICK BUILDING GUTTED

AUCKLAND, This Day,

A fire in Rutland street, early this morning, completely gutted a three storeyed brick building, owned by James Webster, contractor and build-

er. Webster occupied the ground floor, and a local furniture firm had a small quantity of goods on the second floor; the third floor was occupied by the Garrison Artillery Band and the Auckland Mounted Rifle s Band, which, jointly lost music 'and instruments valued at £250, which is partly insured. Webster’s insurance on the building and contents of the first floor are £2500 in the Queensland office.

CHARGE OF INCENDIARISM

MARTON MAN ARRESTED,

MARTON, This Day

John Harris, a resident of Marton Junction, was arrested at Huuterville, last night, by Constable -Sweeney, charged with setting fire to a five roomed dwelling on the ISt hinst. The accused appeared before Mr. Hewitt, S.M., and was remanded for eight days. Bail being fixed at £4OO, or two sureties of £2OO each.
