AMUSEMENTS.

WALTER SMITH. TO-NIGHT! TO-NIGHT!

Walter Smith, known as the great Maori Genius., with his "Music and Magic" shows, will appear at the Town Hall, Taihape, this evening, January 15th, 1916. Highly reputed by the American newspapers and with flowing and convincing press notices j.he comes to his native land after an absence of 20 years. Eight years of it was spent on the American stage. •is a mandolinist he is second to none anywhere. His playing on that little-played instrument is a revelation to the musical world. He is assisted on the piano by Mr. A. R. Savage late of the Williamson Grand Italian Opera Company, of Melbourne. He is also a conjurer that is wonderfully mystifying, unlike the usual run' of magicians. He keeps up a line of patter along with his magic wand that keeps the crowd in good humour a 1 the time, made more so by the touch of American twang in his speech, lie wil take dozens of eggs from a» empty borrowed hat, catch live pigeons from the air, and full-grown fowls from eggs broken before yox«eyes And wSen he takes a stage full of silk handkerchiefs and flags of tfte Allies, a large silk Union Jack six feet long by four feet wide on a sssfoot pole, from a vase not much bigger than a candlestick, the house fanTy storms with applause. The last part of tW programme * no doubt the best, being full of bright sparkling music. His "Smart Set Maori Entertainers" in songs and m*,\ic are certainly good to listen to. Besides singing up-to-date popular song. I w ift characteristic interpretaions *« 'duo, trio, quartette style, they pay mandolines and guitars, harmonising splendidly with the voices. . Book early at Finch's Bazaar.
