The sad case of a barmaid was beard at the South Western Court, London, when Alfred Francis Schlager, aged thirty-six, a driver in the Australian contingent of the Army Service Corps, giving his address as 31, Grbsvenor Street, South Yarra, Melbourne, was charged before Mr. Lister Drummond with bigamy.

The accused had seen service in the Dardanelles, where he was wounded. In August last he made the acquaintance of Marie Louise Harris, while she .Was employed as barmaid at the Plough Inn, Clapham Common. He represented himself as a widower, and offered her marriage. On September 6 last they Avere married at the Battesea Registry Office. After the honeymoon he confessed to Waving a wife in Australia, and surrendered himself to the police. Schlager was remanded.
