THE WALTER SMITH COMPANY. TOWN HALL, TONIGHT. To-night, at the Town Hall, Taihape, Mr. Walter Smith, the clever and highly educated Maori, who lias been 01 the American stage for nearly 20 years, will give one of his famous 1
formances, assisted by a number :■' naturally clever Maoris who lie has trained to a high stage of perfection in the art of music, both vocal and instrumental. The programme to be submitted is an extremely varied one. eliminating altogether any possibility of monotony. Crowded houses have greeted Mr. Smith i;i other centres, and- no doubt he will be well patronised to-night. These students of the Maori Agricultural College, Hastings, who are 1 touring during the vacation with the object of stimulating a dosmamong the Maoris for education and thrift, incidentally are helping the Patriotic Fund. As a troupe, under Mr. Walter Smith, they have given patriotic concerts in towns they have visited, thus raising £3l 9/ for the fund. This sum was raised by concerts in the following places:—Taumarunui, U. 10/7; Te Aroha, £2 5/Sid; Whakapara, £2 9/9*; Kohukuhu, 18 3/2- and by a concert on board -lie steamer Manaia, realising £6 1/9. The sale of patriotic songs raised £9 18/. The tour wilJ continue for another month.
The company, by request, will give a concert in the Town Hall to-morrow evening entirely in aid of local patriotic funds.
