When the men who returned by the Maheno were asked to produce t-heir paybooks at Christchurch, according to Departmental regulations, to enable their pay to be drawn, it was found that the Defence officers had impounded all the paybooks at Auckland. At Wellington, the Mayor was notified by the Defence authorities that from 70 to 100 returned men were arriving by train and full arrangements were made for a good reception —and s:x arrived!
