Among the New Zealanders wounded in the Fight with the Senussis, in Egypt, just recently, is Jimmy Merritt, brother of Mrs. Mitchell, of Bennett's Siding. It seems only the other day that he was in our midst, and now he lies in -hospital at Cairo, with a severe gunshot wound in his left leg. Jimmy (J. Stemson-Merritt) was a gentlemanly, deservedly popular boy, and his many friends her?, in Auckland and at Whakatane, where his mother lives, will regret that he has fallen so early after arrival in Egypt to an enemy bullet. He left New Zealand with the Eighth Reinforcements, which could not have been in Egypt long enough to undergo any training before being called upon to face the Empire's enemies. In a letter recently received from him he said that they were to have their Christmas dinner in peace, as they could not bfl sent to the front before thou, but Christmas Pay found them shoulder to shoulder with Indian brethren repulsing an attack from Arabs on Ihe Tripoli, border. It is gratifying t-
know Va?j did it thoroughly.
