OUR TELEPHONE SERVICE.
To the Editor.) Sir, —I really think it is time the Postal Department gave the longsuffering commercial community some relief in the matter of the telephone service. The local Exchange staff ?s altogether inadequate for the services required of them and, as far as the main lines south is concerned, the position is really most humiliating. You stand by for hours unable to take your next appointment and meekly inquire if "Wanganui" s= available. Finally, when one's patience has become exhausted anyone becomes crabby, a final effort at the bureau is rewarded by a shor* sharp, piercing rc'ply that you're not the only one that wants the line, and of course you just collapse, and. if you have been long at it, you shut up "quickly. Why can't we get another main line and perhaps a few old men to help at the Exchange.—l a*», ctr ... H. D. BENNETT. 21/12/'ls.
