BOGUS STAFF CAPTAIN.

There have been several* cases m England of men posing as military people! but one of the strangest instances occurred last month. The story of how a gamekeeper posed as a staff captain was told at the North Wales Assizes at Ruthlin when George Heney Chamberlain, late headkeeper to Sir Watkin W. Wynn, was sent to five yeans' penal servitude on four indictments, including one of bigamy. At the time of his arrest, Chamberlain was wearing a staff officer's uniform. He had been staying at a Wrexham hotel, where he was known as Staff Captain Stewart. He made the acquaintance of a few local men and of several officers- in the district. Telling a business man not to trouble about the War Office, which he sa ; -1. was composed of "a lot of fools," he gave him a big order for camp materials. He got his man to motor him over to a military camp. Here, his arrival being unexpected, he caused no little discomfiture among junior officers by finding fault with everything a.id everybody. On the way back to Wrexham the motor car collided with a tramw r ay car. The "captain" commandeered two lamps from the tramway car and ordered soldier passengers to stand by the car all night, assuring them that he would make it right with their officers. He kept his promise, and by so doing aroused the suspicion of the authorities, whose information to the police led to his arrest two days later at Rhyl.
