JANUARY CONFER EX CE CALLEI). The United Federation of Labour has issued to all trades unions throughout the Dominion tiro following circular letter relating to conscription, dated from the Trades Hall, Christchurch, November 30th.— "The United Federation of Labour has decided to convene a conference of all bodies representing organised Labour. Ir will be held at the .Esperanto Hall, Lambton Quay,. Wellington. on Tuesday, January 25th, 1910, at 10 a.m. The conference is convened for the purpose of discussing the question of conscription and the attitude of Labour thereto. * "There is no doubt that the manace of eonscritpion is being levelled at the workers of New Zealand, and it is equally certain that there is nor a very clear conception in the minds,, of the workers as to what conscription means. If conscription is enforced, it will' mean the suspension of all civil rights, and the introduction of all the ovls of military domination which happens when the civil authorities are made subservient to the military. "Every Labour organisation is hereby strongly urged to _bo represented at this conferor.ee, and to make a special effort in that direction, even if it entails making a special levy on the members to cover the expense, or the talcing or a voluntary subscription, send a delegate by all means. The life of trades unionism is at stake. "The representation at the conference wiM be: —District councils, one delegate; unions or trade federations with 500 members or loss, one delegate; 501 to 1,000 members, two delegates; .1,001 members and upwards, three delegates. Voting on all questions shall bo on the basis of one delegate one vote. , “In the meantime, all bodies are

urged to pass resolutions coiuioninuig’ conscription, • and to send copies thereof to the Prime Minister and the newspapers. 1 ’
