ENTERTAINMENTS.
“MOTHER GOOSE.”
AT THE TOWN HALL
CINDERELLA TO-NIGHT,
Last evening, at the Town Hall Taihape, Mr. George Stephenson pro
sented Stanley McKay’s Royal Pantomime Company in the over-popular pantomime “Mother Goose,” and the company scored a great success. There was a good attendance and from start to finish those present were treated to a splendid evening’s entertainment. At the bazaar held here during the Carnival, the company supplied the programmes and the quality of the turns was more than sufficient to prove that the company included some excellent performers. Last evening the specialty numbers drew forth great applause. Will Speed, the celebrated tramp cyclist, is very clever and
ieal, and his turn was greatly onjoved by the audience, who greatly appreciated his act. Probably the mom wonderful turn seen here is that of the Fredo Brothers, who, while playing their violins, indulge in an exhibition of tumblng which in itself is albne worth seeing. Combined with the playing of the instruments it is nothing short of marvellous. The various choruses were well rendered and the dancing was very good. All the songs were popular and the audience showed great appreciation. ■ The principal boy, Miss Essie Jennings, sang the recruiting song, “Your King and Country Meed You,” and during the rendering of the chorus coins were thrown on the stage amounting to £2 13/13, this being handed overby Mr. Stephenson to the secretary of the local Patriotic Society. Mr. Will Raynor, who has a great reputation as a tenor, was in excellent voice last evening, and his rendering of “The Veteran ’ was exceptionally good. This artist is reputed to be one of the best tenors in vaudeville in the world. Taking the pantomime all through, it was distinctly good. The singing was good, dancing good, and acting good, while, as stated before, the specialty turns were of a very high standard.
To-night the company will present “Cinderella,” and it is to be hoped there will be a large audience to greet the company when the curtain rises.
Mr. Stephenson and the company did all in their power to assist the Carnival here and they raised a large sum of money by their efforts. It now behoves the local pople to repay them in some small measure by packing the house this evning.
