LAND FOR SOLDIERS.
THE GOVERNMENT’S SCHEME,
APPLICANTS NOT (NUMEROUS.
The Prime,Minister (Right Hon. W. F. Massey), who holds laso the portfolio of Lands, stated the other day that up to the present time the applications for land from returned soldiers had not been numerous. The work of providing land for the men who might want sections appeared to be well in hand. The Hon. A. L. Herdman, the Minister responsible for the welfare of discharged soldiers, and the Under-Secretary for Lands had been visiting the Hawke’s Bay district to look at some land available in that district.
Pamphlets giving full information regarding the conditions under which soldiers may take up land are now printed 'and ready for circulation among discharged soldiers. The applactnt for land will fill in a form, saying that he desires to take up land (naming the desired locality), and answering a number of specific inquiries. He must give full details of his service with the ofrces and the reasons for his discharge; state whether he is in receipt of a war pension: whether he is married or his dependents; what his occupation was prior to joining the forces; what his experience has been on the land or in business; what his financial position is or prospects are; what financial assistance he will require to work the land successfully; and other kindred particulars.
