Mr. A. T. Bate has been elected chairman of Wellington Stock Exchange. and Mr. F. E. Irwin vicechairman.

King George is now able' to move about, and it is expected that he will be able to perform his usual public duties within the next three weeks.

Mr. J. G. Collins, Taoroa, advertises shares in the Otaihape Meat and Produce Company for sale. All calls paid.

A widow residing at Ottawa, Canada, whose son had been rejected from the military force, offered to produce 12 recruits if her son was accepted. The bargain was made and carried out.

The large Church of England Institute building at Trentham Camp has been formally opened by the Hon. J. Allen, -who said that these institutions were doing wonderful work in the camp. Contributions for the erection of the building were received from all parts of Hew Zealand.

Mr. Burgess, our local electrical engineer, is rendering most valuable services in equipping the stage and hall with electric illumination for the Carnival coronation ceremonies. The spectacle to be presented will easily transcend anything previously attempted here.

The amount of wool estimated to have been purchased by American buyers since the opening of the season is 30,000 bales. The shipment of this large quantity does not seem to have greatly troubled the buyers, as the available space in ships Iteaving here has not yet been filled.

All prizes in connection with the Picture Theatre Art Unions, which are unclaimed by S o’clock this evening, will be sold by auction at the combined art union drawings which are to be held this evening at 8 o’clock. The proceeds from the sale will be given to the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund.

All) concerned are falling into their respective duties under the able tutelage of the Master of the Ceremonies, Mr. Stanley Peyton, and his capable lady, 'vho Is Mistress of the Robes.

A centaur-like foal was dropped on Mr. P. Beverley’s farm at Kiwitea last week. It had only two legs —the hind ones —and not even stumps as forelegs. It was a very lively foal, too; but of course it had to be destroyed.

Information has been received that the troopship Maunganui, • which reached her destination last week, is now returning to New Zealand with a few sick and wounded soldiers on board.
