There were about sixty applications for permits to travel to Sydney by the Riverina, which left Wellington yesterday. So far forty-five permits have been issued and four refused, being from men of military age, who could not give a valid treason for wishing to leave. A memorandum from the Undersecretary for Defence states that after this week it will take seven or ten days for a permit to be granted, but in cases of necessity applications can be made to Wellington by telegraph.
