ENTERTAINMENTS.
THE GIRL IN THE TRAIN. Much interest is being displayed in the. forthcoming production at the Taihapo Town Hall on next Saturday .night, the 27th inst., of “The Girl in the Train.” The fame of “The Train” and its phenomenal success in Sydney and Melbourne has long preceded its production here. Several' new English and Australian principals will make a first appearance, in Taihape. They include Miss Violet Collin son, who plays Suzanne in ‘The Taxi.’ Australian file to hand ,refer to her in most flattering terms. Besides being a clever actress and graceful dancer, and opssessing a good tuneful voice, she is gifted with a winsome stage presence. Mr Will Everard, from the Gaiety Theatre,London, is the tenor. Others who make first appearance here are Messrs Geo. Franklyn. F. Hainings, and Mauric 2 Rosenthal, and- Misses Athea Hyde. Edna Bassettp, • and Winifred BarcLugh. Mi D. B. 0‘ Connor, who plays the leading role, will be remembered for his clever performance of Peter Doody in “The Arcadians,” as a former member cf the Bollard Company. which,provides two others in the company to* appear here in Miss Cliff Palmer and Mr Berty Nicholson. Miss Ida Leggatt is tire soprano and is said to possess a. rich and powerful voice. The above-named artists will be supported by minor characters and a full chorus and ballet. MOTHER GOOSE PANTOMIME. “Mother Gicose, ” probably the ; funniest pantomime ever staged in Australasia, is to be presented by Mr. George' Stephenson at the Town Had, Taihape, on Tuesday next, November 30th. The company, Stanley McKay and Co.’s, was formed in Australia some IS months ago, and lias since been appearing with great success in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. Quite recently it completed a wonderfully successful season of three weeks in the Auckland Opera House, where the Press was loud in its praise of both performers and productions. “Mother Goose” will be remembered by theatregoers of a few years back as the pantomime that holds the record for leugthly runs and popularity in alb the large cities of Australasia. The present version has been brought right up to date, new songs, new dances, and new specialities having been introduced. For the New Zealand tour entirely new scenery has been painted by leading Sydney artists, and the many beautiful costumes arc by Zanda, the wellknown Sydney costumier. The leading artists have been specially selected and are supported by a full ballet, chorus, and orchestra. Introduced into the pantomime are a number of excellent speciality turns, including denchs. musicians, trick cyclists, and acrobats. Nothing has been left undone in endeavouring to make the show just the thing the amusement lover wants. On Wednesday “Cinderela,” or the Gir) Who Put Her Foot in It, is to be staged. This pantomime is one of the host in the company’s repertoire.
