KILLED BY MOTOR CAR.
DEATH INSTANTANEOUS

William Hunt, aged 55, employed on public works at the camp at Featherston, was knocked down last night at 10.30 by a motor car containing H. Lloyd, jeweller, and H. Davis, of Davis and Clater, both of Wellingotn. Death was instantaneous. An inquest is being held. INQUEST AT THAMES. THAMES, Thursday, An inquest was held to-day on the body of Matthew Treweelah, found dead at his residence, yesterday morning. A verdict of death from natural causes was returned. Evidence was given by Robert Law. a neighbour, who found deceased, and Constable Bishop. Stephen Catran said that two years ago deceased was warned that he had a weak heart. ENTOMBED FOR 14 HOURS. WAIHI MINERS BURIED. WAIHI, This Day. John Hayes, who, with. James McLennan, met with an accident in theHope of Waihi mine yesterday, through a sudden subsidence of quartz, was res--cued at 2.30 this morning.
Buried waist-deep, McLennan got out after an hour’s work, and Hayes, although buried, could he seen through a crevice between the boulders. He was so hemmed in with boulders and general debris that fourteen hours was occupied in extricating him. During his imprisonment bovril was administered. His injuries consist of contusions on the body and limbs, and he is suffering from shock.
