PRISONERS OE WAR IN TURKEY

MELBOURNE, November 24

The Hon. W. M. Hughes is in receipt of a cable from the Foreign Office stating that the aggregate number of British and Australasian prisoners of war in Turkey does not exceed 4&0. It is understood that the Foreign Office is constantly in touch with the Turkish Red Crescent on the subject of prisoners.

The general committee of the Universal Service League adopted the executive’s report advising the suspension of activities pending the Government campaign based on the war census and Lord Derby’s scheme on the ground that it would interfere with the conduct of .the campaign and stir up opposition to conscription.
