CHANGED HIS TUNE.
"Joined our lot straight from the Salvation Army. BramweJi did," writes a soldier from "Somewhere ,'* "Bramwell isn't his proper name, but one we tacked on to his Nibs straightaway. I tell you, one would have a long hunt before a better Tommy was discovered. No danger disturbs him, no work is too hard, and nothing can put him off song. "He's a regular throstle in khaki, always happy. "I was alongside Bramwell in the trenches during one of our spells there. He's been singing 'Hold the Fort' to himself foi about a couple of hours on end, and, to tell' you the truth, I was getting pretty well fed up with the tune. 'Twas just on the tip of my tongue to tell him to put on a fresh record when a flashlight from the German lines fixed us. "That did the trick, and made my request unnecessary. Bramwell didn't stop singing for an instant. He merely switched off from 'Hold the Fort" to 'Sometimes a Light Surpises the Christian While He Sings,' and ga\e I us an hour of that."
