AMUSEMENTS.
COMIC OPERA FOR TAIHAPE. GIRL IN THE TAXI. Much interest is being displayed over the forthcoming production . at the Town Hall, Taihape, on next Thursday night, the 11th inst., of the world-famed musical comedy, “The Girl in the Taxi.” The fame of “The Taxi” and its phenomenal success in Sydney and Melbourne has long preceded its production here. Interest will also be centered in several new English and Australian principals who make a first appearance in Taihape. They include Miss Violet Collinson who plays Suzanne in ‘The Taxi.’ Australian files to hand refer to her in most flattering terms, besides being a clever actress and graceful dancer, and possessing a good tuneful voice, she is gifted with a most winsome stage presence. Mr Will Evorard from the Gaiety Theatre, London, is the tenor. Others ■who make a first ap- ! pearance here are Messrs Geo. FTanlclyn, F. Hainings, Maurice Rosenthal, and Misses Atfaea Hyde, Edna Bassette, and Winifred Barclough. Mr D. B. O’Connor who plays the leading male roles will be remembered for his clever performance of Peter Doody in “The Arcadians.” and as a former member of the Pollard Company which includes two others in the company to appear here in Miss Cliff Palmer and Mr Bei ty Nicholson. Miss Ida Leggatt is the soprano and said to pbssess a rich and powerful voice. They will be supported by minor characters and a full chorus and ballet.
